Thumbtack

Updated by spencer@upsmith.com

Bring your Thumbtack leads into UpSmith so your AI agent answers them in real time once the campaign is on. Thumbtack uses a one-click authorization — you authorize UpSmith, and it automatically registers a webhook on each of your Thumbtack businesses. The whole flow is self-serve and takes about two minutes, with no manual coordination.

Before you begin

An active Lenny agent with a channel linked to him. Lenny is the agent that answers new leads, and he answers them for every source — there's no separate agent to pick here. You'll find him under Agents.

Without him, Connect opens a dialog instead of connecting: "Assign a lead responder first — No active Lenny agent is set up to answer new leads. Connecting this source now would drop every lead it brings in. Set up Lenny in Agents, then connect." If he's there but has no channel, you'll get "Your lead responder has no channel" instead. Either way the dialog offers you Open Lenny to go and fix it.

  • Your Thumbtack login(s) for the account(s) you want to connect — you'll sign in during authorization.

The Thumbtack card is available to every account on the Integrations page — there's nothing to switch on first.

Step by step

  1. Connect and authorize. Open the Thumbtack card → Connect. UpSmith sends you to Thumbtack's authorization screen; sign in and grant access. You're returned to UpSmith and the card shows Connecting, then Connected. To link more than one Thumbtack login, use Connect another account and repeat — each login appears as its own panel.

  2. Webhooks register automatically. After authorization, UpSmith finds the businesses on the connected account and registers a leads webhook on each one — nothing needed from you. Each business shows a webhook status of Active, Disabled, or Error under Show details.

  3. Leads flow in real time.

New Thumbtack leads are delivered to UpSmith as soon as the connection is live. Nobody is texted yet — Thumbtack needs a lead-response campaign and it isn't created automatically. Email support@upsmith.com and we'll set it up and switch it on. Leads that arrive before then are recorded, not lost.

The card shows each account's last webhook and last token refresh as a quick health check.

Turning it on

Connecting doesn't start the replies. The campaign that answers these leads starts paused, so leads arrive and are recorded while nobody is texted.

Email support@upsmith.com once you're connected and we'll switch it on and watch the first few conversations with you. There's no switch for this one on the card.

There's one blunt way to do it yourself: Resume sends on Lenny's page under Agents turns on every campaign Lenny runs at once, not just this one. Worth knowing before you press it.

Connection states & recovery

  • Connecting → Connected — normal flow. Needs attention — something needs a look.

  • Re-register webhooks — if a business's webhook ever fails to register (rare), retry it from that account.

  • Reconnect (token expired) — if the authorization expires, the account shows Needs attention; click Reconnect to restore the lead flow.

  • Disconnect — revokes UpSmith's access to one account and stops its leads; other connected accounts stay live.

  • Multiple businesses — a single login can carry several businesses; each is registered and tracked independently.

Troubleshooting

A customer replied in Thumbtack and nothing showed up in UpSmith. A reply on a conversation the agent had already closed now reopens it. If your team answered in Thumbtack after it closed, the customer's next message reopens it muted — you'll see it, the agent won't answer over you.

Onboarding checklist

  • Lenny active in Agents, with a linked channel

  • Thumbtack authorization completed

  • Card shows Connected; each business shows an Active webhook

  • Additional logins linked via Connect another account, if any

  • First webhook received (visible on the account panel)
