Google Analytics

Updated by Spencer

Connecting Google Analytics brings your GA4 website traffic and key events into UpSmith, so you can see how visits to your site turn into leads, booked jobs and revenue.

UpSmith only reads reports. As the card says: "UpSmith only reads reports and never changes anything in Analytics."

Before you begin, you'll need

  • A Google account that can view your GA4 property. Viewer access is enough. Older Universal Analytics properties aren't supported.

  • This is its own sign-in. Connecting Google Ads or Google Local Services Ads doesn't connect Analytics, and connecting Analytics doesn't change them.

Connect it

  1. Go to Integrations and find the Google Analytics tile under Website. Click Connect.

  2. Click Sign in with Google. Pick the account you use for Analytics and allow UpSmith to view your Analytics data. Leave that box ticked, or the connection fails.

  3. You're sent back to UpSmith and see "Google Analytics connected. Choose a property to report on."

  4. Choose your property. Under Property to report on, pick your website's property — each one shows the property name and its account in brackets. Click Save property. You'll see "Google Analytics property saved".

UpSmith reads one property per account. To switch, pick another one and click Save property.

What connecting actually gets you

As soon as a property is saved, the card shows a quick check: "Last 28 days: … sessions, … users, … key events", with sessions for your top channels underneath.

From there, Jenny joins your website traffic to your leads, calls and ServiceTitan jobs:

  • Traffic to revenue. Sessions, users and key events by source, campaign and landing page, next to the leads and booked jobs each one brought in.

  • Which pages earn their keep. Your landing pages ranked by the jobs and revenue that followed a visit, not just by traffic.

  • Where visitors drop off. Visited, engaged, converted on your site, then booked in ServiceTitan.

  • Questions that need both systems. "Which cities send us the most website visitors, and do they book?" or "Did the new water heater page bring in more booked jobs this month?"

Anything you can see in Ask Jenny can go in a recurring report, so your website numbers can land in the same weekly email as the rest of your business.

UpSmith refreshes your Analytics data every day.

Turning it off

Click Disconnect and confirm: "UpSmith will stop reading this Analytics property and remove its stored Google credentials. You can reconnect later." Then you'll see "Google Analytics disconnected".

Disconnecting Analytics doesn't affect Google Ads or Google Local Services Ads. To remove UpSmith's access on Google's side too, use your Google account's third-party access settings — but that also cuts off Google Ads and LSA if you use the same Google account for them.

Troubleshooting

"Google Analytics access was not granted." The box allowing UpSmith to view your Analytics data was unticked. Connect again and leave it ticked.

"This Google account cannot see any Google Analytics 4 properties." You signed in with an account that has no GA4 access. Sign in with the one you use for Analytics.

The badge says Connected but the tile still needs attention. No property is chosen yet. Pick one and click Save property.

Needs attention: "Google no longer accepts UpSmith's sign-in." The sign-in expired or was removed. Click Sign in with Google and sign in again.

"The connected Google account can no longer read this property. Choose another." Someone removed that account's access to the property in Analytics. Restore it, or choose another property.

"That property is not available to the connected Google account." Pick a property from the list; the list only shows ones this account can read.

"Google sign-in was cancelled" or "Google did not accept the sign-in." The sign-in didn't finish. Start again.

"Google Analytics could not be reached. Please try again." Google didn't answer. Try again in a few minutes.

Common questions

Can UpSmith change anything in Google Analytics? No. It only has view access.

Who can connect it? Anyone signed in to your UpSmith account.

Does this replace Google Ads spend tracking? No. If your property is linked to Google Ads, some campaign data comes through Analytics too, but your ad spend comes from the Google Ads connection.
