Connecting Semrush lets UpSmith read your SEO projects — like Position Tracking and Site Audit — so your search numbers can sit next to your ServiceTitan numbers in Ask Jenny.
Semrush doesn't offer a one-click sign-in for this. Instead you copy a read-only API key from Semrush and paste it into UpSmith. It takes about a minute.
Before you begin, you'll need
The Semrush Advanced plan. API access is only on Advanced. A key from any other plan is rejected.
A Semrush login that owns your projects, or that they've been shared with. UpSmith reads the projects the key's user can see, including ones shared with them.
Connect it
Go to Integrations and find the Semrush tile under Website. Click Connect.
Copy a key from Semrush. Click Open Semrush API Keys. In Semrush, click Create API key, give it Read only permission (and an expiry date if you want one), then Copy it. Semrush shows the whole key only once, so copy it before you close the window.
Paste it here. Back in UpSmith, click Paste in the key box, or paste with your keyboard. There's no button to press after: "We check it with Semrush as soon as you paste."
While UpSmith checks, you'll see "Checking with Semrush…". When it works you'll see "Semrush is connected" and the projects UpSmith can read.
What connecting actually gets you
The connected card lists the projects the key can read — each project's name, its domain and the Semrush tools it uses. Check that every site you care about is there.
From there, Jenny joins your Semrush projects to your leads, calls and ServiceTitan jobs, so you can see what your search work actually brings in:
Rankings next to the work they bring in. Where you rank for searches like "AC repair near me", next to the leads, calls and booked jobs that came from search that week.
Which services and areas to push. Your keyword positions by service and city, next to your revenue by job type and zone, to show where a better ranking would pay most.
Site problems, in lost leads. Site Audit issues next to your website leads, so a broken booking page shows up as fewer leads, not just a warning in Semrush.
Questions that need both systems. "Did our Google leads go up after we moved into the top three for water heater replacement?"
Anything you can see in Ask Jenny can go in a recurring report, so your search numbers can land in the same weekly email as the rest of your business.
UpSmith only reads your projects and never changes anything in Semrush. Each read uses a few API units from your Semrush account.
Turning it off
Click Disconnect and confirm: "UpSmith will delete the saved API key and stop reading your Semrush projects. You can also revoke the key in Semrush under API Keys. You can reconnect later."
Deleting the key under API Keys in Semrush also stops UpSmith's access, even if nobody disconnects in UpSmith.
To use a different key, click Replace key on the connected card and paste the new one.
Troubleshooting
"Semrush didn't accept this key." The red box under the key lists the two usual causes:
The key is incomplete. Semrush shows it only once, so if you copied part of it, click Make a new key in Semrush and copy the new one in full.
The account isn't on the Semrush Advanced plan, which includes API access.
An expired key is rejected the same way. Make a new one.
"Semrush could not be reached. Please try again." Semrush didn't answer. Nothing was saved. Try again in a few minutes.
"The key works, but its Semrush user has no projects yet." The key is fine, but its user can't see any projects. Create a project in Semrush, or have its owner share it with that user. Then click Replace key and paste the key again to refresh the list.
A project is missing from the list. It isn't owned by, or shared with, the key's user. Share it in Semrush, then paste the key again.
"Semrush stopped accepting the saved key." The key expired or was deleted in Semrush. Make a new one and paste it to reconnect.
Common questions
Can UpSmith change anything in Semrush? No. Give the key Read only permission and UpSmith can only read.
Does this cost anything in Semrush? Each read uses a few API units from your plan. Opening the Integrations page doesn't use any.
Should the key expire? That's up to you. If it does, UpSmith stops reading on that date and the card asks for a new key.
